But so far I'm sadly just disappointed. After around a year in Early Access, Afterburner Studios is finally ready to launch its subconscious rougelike, Dreamscaper. And I mean, maybe the game gets better later on, as the story progresses. It's all just making this game feel really dismissable and forgetful. No voice acting or any kind of emphasizing the text just makes the story part of the game really just go quite unnoticed. Nothing to add to the atmosphere, really. They feel very unlively and bland, there's just nothing in them. There's not that much in-level variety either - I had three same-looking burger place rooms in level 1. Upgrades and other overworld mechanics feel kind of cryptic and not very easily understandable. ![]() Cutscene transitions are not fluid at all either, it breaks the immersion even more. Levels meaning a single dream feel clunky and too fragmented. ![]() But I feel incredibly unimmersed because of the artificial boundaries and lack of continuity in moving around the map and the game overall. However, pacing is not the only issue and I wanted to appreciate the game as it is, still. I bought it with expectations of getting a fairly dynamic slasher but this is not it. So far I must say the game makes me feel underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time.
